Characterization of Metal Oxide Nanomaterials

With a focus on their applicability to thermoluminescence (TL) applications, this work examines the structural, morphological, and compositional characteristics of several metal oxide nanomaterials. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used for structural analysis. The results showed different crystalline states and average grain sizes, two noteworthy discoveries were that ZrO2 had a crystalline size of 11.62 nm and NiO had considerable particle growth to 35.9 nm. Phenotypic investigation using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed information on surface functional groups and particle agglomeration. The presence of particular metal–oxygen interactions and hydroxyl groups on the surface was confirmed by FTIR spectra, while SEM pictures revealed diverse particle morphologies and agglomeration tendencies. These characterizations have an important bearing on how well TL materials operate as well as how sensitive they are for radiation monitoring.
