This chapter conceptualizes Africa within the lens of Education—a field of study that focuses on the theory, practice, and methods of teaching and learning. Generally, education encompasses how individuals learn and how knowledge is transmitted. Specifically, African education is investigated in terms of its unique challenges and opportunities. The two aspects are evolving through transmission of culture, customs, and traditions from one generation to another. Thus, this chapter majorly probes the conceptualizations of Africa within the context of education as a field of study. Although it is impracticable to explore all of the conceptualizations, readers of this chapter may be curious as to why the investigation on how Africa is conceptualized in the field of Education. The curiosity is satisfied given the vital roles of education on the continent—promotes cultural pride, critical thinking, and a balanced understanding of Africa. In essence, this chapter gives an explanation of how these roles are significant to Africa and Africans. As a result, the following conceptualizations were explored thematically: (1) Africa and evolution of education, (2) African pedagogical practices, and (3) decolonizing African education.
