Probed in this chapter is the conceptualization of Africa in relation to computer science, commonly defined as the systematic study of the principles and use of computers—i.e., electronic devices for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program; also, persons who make calculations, especially with a calculating machine. Thus, in order to narrow the focus of the chapter, the key question investigated here is the following: What are some of the ways Africa has been conceptualized apropos the academic discipline of computer science?
