International Relations

This chapter conceptualizes Africa in the field of International Relations (IR), particularly as it relates to corrupt practices on power distance, national interest, and international politics between nation-states and non-state actors. It begins by conceptualizing corruption in IR, as an understanding of corruption from the stance of the discipline is quite fitting in unraveling what Africa is in global politics. Given the emerging trends and issues on globalization, climate change, military, economy, health, etc., this chapter then explores the philosophy of Africa in this interdisciplinary IR field and its effect in constructing the gap between Africa and the West. Thus, this chapter then turns to unpacking corruption in IR from the purview of Africa’s position in the global arena.
