The Thomistic Account—Ontological Analysis

This chapter continues the Thomistic account of human sexual difference by exploring the ontological status of maleness and femaleness. First, it considers whether they are realities that determine the very existence of a new substance or rather are accidental qualities that modify an ontologically prior substance. Having concluded that sexual difference is not a specific difference, it then considers the precise mode of accidental being that characterizes maleness and femaleness and notes their unique relationship to the substances in which they inhere.
