The Explanandum
摘要
This chapter considers the phenomena of sexual difference; it looks to that which careful observation has revealed of the nature and characteristics of maleness and femaleness. It treats the findings of the natural and social sciences regarding sexual dimorphism. Exploration of scientific findings begins with the biological, expands to the neurological and hormonal, and concludes with the psychological and behavioral. The chapter neither offers an account of the observed phenomena nor takes a stance on their ontological status. Rather, it provides a common collection of observations that any proposed account of sexual difference must explain; it provides the explanandum.
