Harnessing Energy Justice as a Toolkit for Just Transition Policy

The theory of energy justice has risen in popularity among scholars and policymakers. Irrespective of geographical location, profession, language or circumstance, the utilisation of the energy justice framework to correct injustices resulting from the energy sector is now becoming a minimum standard. It has resonated with the just transition too and attached itself as a viable policy tool since at the crux of both, the aim is to ensure sustainability and fairness while improving existing vulnerabilities and inequalities. To further bridge these, the broken social contract between society and the energy industry must also be restored. Employing the energy justice framework within just transition policies allows for a just implementation, the restoration of this relationship by ensuring past harms are corrected, and to future-proof energy and climate strategies for an overall common good.
