The Byzantine-Norman Cultural Landscape in Calabria. Notes on an Integrated Strategic Management Model: Interpreting, Preserving, Re-narrating

The general proposal concerns the development of an integrated model of management of Byzantine-Norman Cultural Landscapes in Calabria considering, conservation, fruition, communication and marketing tools, and management issues. The starting point is to consider marginal areas as places of opportunity rather than disadvantaged, troubling sites. The project intends to pursue an interdisciplinary approach, in addition to advancing scientific knowledge in the sectors involved, with the development of innovative models of valorization, narration, interpretation, and management of cultural resources, aimed at promoting the potential dispersed and lesser-known cultural heritage of disadvantaged Inner Areas and their economic development in Southern Italy. In particular, the present paper focuses on the elaboration of an interpretative model, discussing some issues regarding knowledge approach and preservation.
