Geomatic Aspect of Urban Resilience in the Kantian Philosophy of Science

The article proposes an interdisciplinary analysis between Geomatics and philosophy, with particular attention to the works of Immanuel Kant. The connection between the concept of orientation described by Kant and the practical application of Geomatics is highlighted, underlining how the subjective interpretation of data is crucial in understanding and making decisions in the geospatial field, fundamental with a view to optimizing finalized practices to urban resilience. Through key quotes from Kant’s works, the parallels between Kant’s concept of orientation in space and the need in Geomatics to correctly interpret collected data to make informed decisions are outlined. The link between space and time according to the Kantian theory of knowledge is also explored, highlighting how these ideas can find a similar representation in geomatic applications, where space and time are fundamental concepts. The work subsequently proceeds to analyze Kant’s transcendental logic and its relevance in Geomatics, highlighting how both disciplines require an in-depth understanding of conceptual structures and basic categories. The article then explores how the integrated approach of Geomatics, with its combination of analytical techniques, can provide a more complete perspective in the analysis of geospatial data. The detailed presentation of the clusters identified through the Cluster Analysis offers an opportunity to explain the distinct roles between geomaticians and philosophers of science, underlining the importance of technical skills and philosophical reflections in the in-depth understanding of the topics covered in relation to Geomatics methodologies, to support environmental monitoring and Cultural Heritage, useful in the field of climate change management and urban resilience.
