Stamping Process Improvement of High Yield Stress Steels for the Automotive Industry

The stamping process plays a key role in several industries, namely the automotive industry. Although high strength steels have shown excellent mechanical properties, there are drawbacks related to their formability, which are associated with the appearance of defects that compromise product quality. These materials can show unpredictable responses due to variations in their chemical composition, heat treatment, and processing parameters. The main objective of this work is to identify and eliminate cracks that occur during the stamping process of metallic materials using experimental techniques. This analysis is carried out using bending tests to discover the optimum stamping conditions that maximize the performance of the materials by using Design of Experiments. As a result of the analysis the best material and stamping conditions were defined.
