Cybersecurity Awareness in Critical Sectors – a Systematic Literature Review

Cybersecurity has been a concern for years, and cybercriminals continue to develop more sophisticated methods for cyber-attacks. Traditionally, cybersecurity has been viewed as purely technical, however, there is a growing agreement of the importance of the human side of cybersecurity. There has been a growing interest in cybersecurity awareness in recent years, however, not so much in critical sectors. In this systematic literature review, an overview of the current state of research in the field is provided, and gaps are identified. The result shows that 12 articles considered cybersecurity in critical sectors, indicating a need for more research. Many critical sectors were not considered in any of the reviewed literature, calling for additional research in these specific areas. Most articles state that cybersecurity awareness is important, however, few discuss why. Most propose awareness training; however, few propose specific types of training, indicating a need for more research on the topic.
