“Digital Twins and Energy Efficiency in Buildings: A Literature Review”

The relentless pursuit of energy efficiency in the field of construction is taking on a new dimension today through the exploration and integration of emerging technologies such as digital twins, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and Building Information Modeling (BIM). This evolution offers unprecedented potential for more informed and strategic energy management within building structures. This article presents a literature review that explores the innovative application of digital twins, artificial intelligence, and BIM in building energy management. By focusing on recent developments in these technologies, this article highlights their potential impact on greenhouse gas emissions reduction and energy efficiency improvement in the construction sector. To conduct this review, we performed a bibliometric analysis of 206 articles obtained by cross-referencing the keywords of this article, followed by an in-depth analysis of the 22 articles that best align with our research objectives. The results demonstrate a significant growth in the number of studies in this field, all aiming to substantially optimize building energy efficiency. These studies primarily rely on data analysis and utilize a variety of technologies.
