Today, educational content is available and abundant on the internet, and dozens of accelerators, incubators, low-cost or free online courses, and alternative education programs have popped up to serve working professionals who want to learn new skills. As a result, new styles of education were created and englobed under what we call e-learning. In this article, we will review the current state of applying AI into the field of e-learning based on different existing educational theories, different functionalities a digital learning system can offer and how AI contribute in developing them. Then, study the hybridization of both approaches and what possibilities we might unlock combining existing educational theories and functionalities provided by the system.
