摘要

Puerto Madryn is a medium-sized city which economic structure is based mainly on industrial activities and port services linked to aluminum production and fishing companies settled in the north end of the city. Tourism is another activity that strongly contributes to the local economy through the provision of services and a tourism infrastructure located mainly on the central and south coastal area. The quality of life index falls within the medium to high level range for the city as a whole, showing a decreasing trend toward the west. In 2010, the Puerto Madryn situation was relatively more favorable when compared to the total of the departments of the country, showing high primary school (DBCP) and higher education completion rates, medium-to-low child mortality rates (IMR), low rate of population without health insurance (PWHI), low proportion of houses without private bathrooms and flushing toilets (LOEUOT), and acceptable figures for environmental indicators. However, Puerto Madryn also shows a medium-to-high overcrowding rate due mainly to the constant migratory flow and high number of migrants arriving in the region. Although the situation in Puerto Madryn is in general good or very good, there are asymmetries and a marked difference between the quality of life in the coastal and the inner (western) zone of the city.
