Greater Salta

The Greater Salta agglomeration is one of the most important cities of Argentina’s northern region. In 2010, its ICV was 7.11 points, and it was among the administrative units that enjoyed the best quality of life in the country (#63 among 526 departments) in the national well-being ranking. The variables that make up the socioeconomic dimension showed relatively homogeneous values, placing it in intermediate quartiles, while those integrating the environmental dimension were in the best quartile—in other words, in a relatively better situation considering the national context. But beyond these characteristics, which depicted the average situation of the agglomerate, the spatial distribution of the different dimensions that make up the index showed a high degree of fragmentation, which denoted deep inequalities. The worst conditions were in the SE and in a small sector of the N in the agglomerate, where the Arias River was a clear barrier by which living conditions were notably modified.
