Greater Mendoza

Greater Mendoza is the most important agglomeration in the Cuyo region, Western Argentina, with a high population concentration. It is characterized by outstanding population growth, directly related to the rise in the demographic rate and a significant transformation of the economic structure of the agro-industrial profile that characterizes the province. According to INDEC (2010), Greater Mendoza has a total of 940,137 inhabitants and a high population density of 5596 inhabitants/km2. This city has modern buildings and stands out for its important and dynamic commercial activity, representing a high employment level. The Greater Mendoza, according to the analysis of the socioeconomic indicators for the year 2010, presents a propitious context, with favorable conditions. The quality of life index is within the high-level range for the city as a whole. The most favorable conditions are concentrated in the center and gradually decrease toward the periphery. The central census tracts are circumscribed within the best quartile, with values ranging from 7.67 to 9.84, expanding spatially toward the south, while the areas with a medium-high category (6.33–7.02) are found in census tracts bordering on the previous category. The most deficient situation is manifested in the extremes of the periphery, especially toward the northeast, east, and west. According to the analysis of data related to the socioeconomic dimension, the registered rates intervene favorably, defining a quality of life score of 7.56. Value positions Greater Mendoza in a high relative situation, compared to national quartiles.
