Tandil

Tandil is a medium-sized city that has a diversified economic structure, beginning with agricultural activity, being able to identify a strong activity in agribusiness linked to the upper circuit of the urban economy. The manufacturing industry, particularly the food and metal-mechanic branches; it also has a recognized regional specialization in commerce and services, being one of the most dynamic sectors of the current economy. Finally, among the most representative economic activities, tourism has shown significant growth and is related to the landscape aptitude of the mountains. It is a city with a good occupational level, highly qualified human resources, intense capital flow, and significant productive diversification. The quality of life index falls within the high level range for the city as a whole. In 2010, Tandil exhibited a very favorable situation relative to the country’s other departments, given that it presents a low rate of population with less than complete primary education (DBCP), a high rate of population with complete university, middle-low child rate of mortality (IMR), low rate of population without health insurance (PWHI), low rate of housing with lack of exclusive use of bathroom (LOEUOT), and overcrowded housing, which added to the positive environmental indicators (SRR, NRR and EP) they end up defining an outstanding quality of life score by placing themselves in quartile 1. Despite the good general situation, material and social asymmetries are exhibited with respect to education, health, housing, and the environment, evidencing a typical pattern of a fragmented city.
