Roadside plantation is the most effective way to maintain atmospheric temperature, and vehicular air pollution as well as soil holding. For maintaining roadside plantations, it is observed that generally manual watering and sprinkling is used, nonetheless it leads to water wastage, high transportation, and labour costs. Though advancements in technology is seen in sprinkling and irrigation systems, however roadside irrigation has not been much looked upon. The current systems use either obsolete technologies like Bluetooth, or low life sensors much affected by the environmental conditions, or high dependency on internet connectivity. Therefore, considering the limitations of the current technologies, in this research an integrated design system employing an Internet of Things (IoT) enabled smart drip irrigation system for roadside plantation is proposed. The proposed system architecture contains three stages. In the very first stage, data acquisition is performed using soil moisture level sensor, Digital Temperature and Humidity sensor (DHT), water flow sensor, ultrasonic sensor for moisture, humidity, temperature, flow rate changes and water level in tank respectively. In the second stage, Arduino UNO based Micro Controller Unit (MCU) is used for data processing. Finally, in the third stage, Control unit is employed for controlling the measured parameters viz. soil moisture level. It is observed, the developed method has given promising results with refined proposed technology and the water consumption in irrigation of roadside plantation is observed highest for summer with an average of 7.66L and standard deviation 1.87. In winter season average water consumption is observed to be 2.4L and standard deviation be 1.06L, with no water consumption during rainy season.
