Modern Slavery of Women Workers in Bangladesh

  • Naznin Tabassum

摘要

Modern slavery is a nightmare for those who endure it. In Bangladesh, people suffer from modern slavery due to patriarchy, gender roles shaped by societal norms, and inadequate management strategies and government policies. The COVID-19 pandemic has aggravated vulnerability and poverty, leading to increased migration, forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of modern slavery. While the Bangladeshi government has taken strong actions within Asia and the Pacific to improve conditions of forced labour, end child marriage, and combat human trafficking, significant gaps remain in identifying and supporting survivors and ensuring that criminal proceedings are trauma-informed and timely.
