The logarithmic norm

The logarithmic norm was introduced independently by Dahlquist and Lozinskii in 1958. The aim was to estimate solutions to ordinary differential equations. Although the original definitions only dealt with matrices, it was recognized that the theory also applied to bounded linear operators in Banach space.
