Magnetic Natural Polymers’ Application as Drug Carriers

摘要

Drug carriersDrug carriers are biocompatible tools for transporting molecules for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and health applications. Among the most important advantages of drug carriersDrug carriers are high stability, high carrying capacity, and simultaneous drug administration. The purpose of using drug carriersDrug carriers is to control drug release and reduce or avoid secondary effects. Due to their inherent magnetic properties, magnetic nanoparticlesMagnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are suitable candidates for drug delivery and targeted therapies in clinical studies. The objective of the drug delivery strategy is to maximize the therapeutic index of drugs by increasing the concentration of drugs in the target sites while minimizing the side effects of drugs, in non-target tissues. Since biological tissues show the least reaction to the magnetic field, there are many studies and attention on using MNPs in the presence of a magnetic field to control the accumulation and release of drugs in the desired tissues. However, one of the main problems of MNPs is their accumulation due to their inherent magnetism as well as their small size and their removal by the Reticuloendothelial systemReticuloendothelial system (RES). To overcome these disadvantages and to increase the biocompatibility properties, core–shell structures with MNPs core and natural polymer shells can be used.
