Nanocomposites Based on Metal–Organic Framework/Polysaccharide in Drug Delivery

In response to the increasing number of diseases, as well as the concerns related to the direct usage of drugs, to date, several researches have been devoted to developing new constructs for drug delivery applications. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs)Metal-organic frameworks are one of the emerging groups of porous materials with special features that introduce them as the ideal candidates for developing new drug carriers. But in some cases, these materials suffer from some limitations like a tendency to aggregation, degradation in an aqueous medium, etc. Hence, the composition of MOFs with a secondary substance could be beneficial. In between, the polysaccharidesPolysaccharides are the favorable candidates due to their biocompatibility, low price, and availability. So, the nanocompositesNanocomposite prepared from the MOF and polysaccharidePolysaccharides exhibited favorable performances in the drug delivery area. Taking these into account, this chapter aimed to describe the reported progress in the development of the nanocompositesNanocomposite based on MOF/polysaccharidePolysaccharides for use area of drug delivery with an emphasis on the nanocompositesNanocomposite prepared from the chitosan (CS), cellulose, alginate (Alg), starch (St), pectin (Pec), and κ-carrageenan (κ-Car). In fact, this chapter systematically will describe the synthesis ways, two main properties, drug loading ways, and applications of the nanocompositesNanocomposite based on MOF/polysaccharidePolysaccharides in drug delivery. Finally, it is expected that this chapter assists as a valuable reference to help researchers in the design and development of the new nanocompositesNanocomposite based on MOF/polysaccharidePolysaccharides with improved efficiency for use in drug delivery areas.
