Effects of Social Robot’s Non-verbal Behaviors on Facilitating Creativity
摘要
Nowadays, human-AI collaborations are widely explored in creative activities. Most AI collaborators are virtual agents, while some researchers have explored embodied agents as tools for eliciting creativity. However, few studies have examined the effects of social robots’ behaviors on facilitating human-AI collaborations. In this study, we designed three behavior patterns of a non-humanoid robot to test whether non-verbal behaviors have an effect on facilitating people’s creations. Participants did two tasks: one verbal creativity and one figural creativity. Each participant experienced one of the three conditions: positive, negative or neutral interactions of the social robot. Results indicated that despite not being directly involved in the creative process, after participants became familiar with the robot, the positive and neutral interactions of the robots significantly facilitated creative ideation and the creative process compared to the negative interactions. Our findings suggest that social robot’s non-verbal behaviors can be used to enhance the creative process and outcomes. The study shows great potentials for designing AI-driven companion robots in creative-related activities.
