摘要

Kolkata, famously known as the City of Joy, generates around 4000MT of municipal solid waste (MSW) on daily basis. Recent research trends impart that energy can be generated from such huge amount of generated waste and thus a thermal model of a combined cycle thermal power plant using gasification of MSW in a downdraft gasifier has been developed in this study. The plant consists of three modules: Gasifier Module, Toping GT Module and Bottoming ST Module. Plant’s performance has been analysed by varying the pressure ratio of the compressor and equivalence ratio of combustion chamber of the topping gas turbine module. Based on the analysis and in consideration of metallurgical limit of GT material, most suitable pressure ratio (of 6–8) and equivalence ratio (of 2) have been suggested. Plant’s energetic and exergetic efficiency have been noted as 37.14% and 32.87%, respectively at the pressure ratio of 8 and oxygen to equivalence ratio of 2 while gasifier bed temperature is 800 C and equivalence ratio is 0.3 with atmospheric pressure.
