Activities on the Efficient Use of Water in Agriculture in Türkiye Under Climate Change
摘要
It has been realized once again why water is so important during the epidemic process, with the droughts experienced in recent years associated with the decrease in precipitation and increase in average temperature as a result of global warming. At this point, food security and supply based on irrigated agriculture have become the most important issue for humanity. The limited crop pattern in rainfed agricultural areas changes in irrigated areas. Agricultural irrigation is still the largest water using sector in the world and in Türkiye. About 69% of the world’s water resources are used in agriculture, 19% in industry, and 12% for domestic purposes. In Türkiye, these ratios are 76% in agriculture, 24% in industry and for domestic purposes, respectively. The limited water resources and the increasing demand in all sectors in Türkiye make it necessary to use the existing water resources in the most efficiently ways. Therefore, in water management, it is necessary to ensure a fair sharing and effective use of water between sectors in harmony with the environment. This chapter deals with the works under the structural and nonstructural measures implemented in Türkiye for effective use of water in agriculture.
