Adoption of Water-Saving Technologies in Agriculture

  • Andres Jaramillo Valencia

摘要

Water-saving technologies (WST) refer to tools, systems, and practices designed to reduce water consumption and enhance water efficiency in various applications, including agriculture, industry, and domestic use. These technologies aim to conserve water resources by minimizing waste, optimizing usage, and promoting sustainable water management. The adoption of water-saving technologies, particularly in agricultural advanced irrigation systems, presents equally significant opportunities and challenges. Precision irrigation systems such as sprinkler and drip irrigation can help conserve water and improve irrigation efficiency and water productivity. The adoption of water-saving technologies in agriculture is influenced by a complex interplay of factors that vary significantly between developed and developing countries. In many developing countries, traditional farming practices are deeply rooted, and there is often resistance to change. Adoption of modern technologies requires enormous efforts in capacity building and water policy drafting and implementation. Continued research, development, social work in farming communities, monitoring, and evaluation are key to ensure food security in a water-constrained future.
