Restoring, Rewriting and Re-righting: An Ethnological/Comparative Appraisal

This chapter concentrates on the essential task of repairing, rewriting, and re-righting the narratives of marginalized populations, particularly the Orang Asli and Santal peoples. The chapter aims to revive the collective memory of these communities and reconstitute their buried histories by deconstructing the hegemonic power structures entrenched in the complex interplay between research, development, commerce, and social work. This process of correction or healing, known as “re-righting” their past, sets the groundwork for the creation of an inclusive model of societal peace. The chapter supports its claims with examples from Malaysia and Bangladesh.
