Identity Care and Becoming Activists

  • Felipe G. Santos

摘要

This chapter focuses on the role of identity care in addressing the stigmatization and loss of self-worth that often accompany systemic injustices such as eviction. It analyzes how PAH fosters the reconstruction of self-concepts, enabling members to transition from passive beneficiaries to empowered activists. Through symbolic practices, shared narratives, and public rituals, identity care creates a sense of collective belonging and solidarity. The chapter highlights the relational and iterative nature of identity care, showing how it fosters cohesion within the movement and contributes to the broader process of empowerment. By addressing the intersections of identity and agency, the chapter situates identity care as a critical element of care work within social movements.
