Glomus Tumor
摘要
Glomus tumors are benign tumors derived from neuromyoarterial glomus bodies, which play a role in thermoregulation and regulation of vascular flow [1, 2]. They are composed of a combination of glomus cells, smooth muscle cells, and blood vessels. Glomus tumors are most common in the digits and subungual region, since these anatomic areas are densely populated by glomus bodies [2, 3]. It is estimated that 75% of glomus tumors occur in the subungual region [4]. Glomus tumors may also be found in the dermis of the palms and forearms, and solid organs, including the stomach, pancreas, and the gastrointestinal tract [5]. There are three variants of glomus tumors: (1) solid, which is composed mainly of glomus cells (2) glomangioma, which is composed mainly of blood vessels, and (3) glomangiomyoma, which is composed mainly of smooth muscle cells [6]. Glomangiomyoma is the rarest variant of glomus tumor, comprising approximately 2–5% of all glomus tumors [7].
