Onychocryptosis, or ingrown nail, is a common nail pathology that occurs when the nail plate grows into the periungual dermis causing inflammation and potentially causing infection. Prevalence in the general population ranges from 2.5% to 5% [1]. Onychocryptosis may cause significant pain, discomfort, and disability if left untreated [2]. The hallux nails, or great toenails, are the most frequently affected [3]. Onychocryptosis may present at any age, but most often presents in adolescents and in older adults [1, 4]. Mild disease can frequently be treated with conservative management and surgical approaches are often reserved for moderate to severe disease [1]. Patients who underwent treatment have reported high levels of overall satisfaction [5].
