Onychomatricoma is a fibroepithelial tumor of nail matrix origin that was first described in 1992 [1–6]. It forms due to disruption in nail matrix differentiation and has been described as the only type of tumor that independently produces a nail plate [3]. It is typically painless and grows slowly [7]. In 2019, less than 200 cases had been reported [8]. Onychomatricoma is composed of finger-like projections arising from the nail matrix that are best seen when the nail is avulsed. These filiform projections form longitudinally arranged cavities within the nail plate that are visible from the distal edge of the nail [9, 10]. They most commonly affect the fingernails, although toenail involvement has been described [7, 11, 12].
