The Australian Private Military and Security Industry

This chapter considers the relationship between the state, its use of forceUse of force and how the Australian PMSC phenomenon is experienced in terms of accountabilityAccountability and regulation. The chapter draws on in-depth interviews as well as primary and secondary documents to inductively identify patterns within the Australian PMSC industry to ascertain how the Australian PMSC industry’s use of forceUse of force is connected to state entities. It problematizes the role of PMSCs within Australia and identifies issues of regulation and accountabilityAccountability regarding the use of forceUse of force.
