Australia’s Outsourcing of Security and PMSCs

This chapter addresses Australia’s relationship to security privatization, the use of PMSCs, and how the Australian PMSC phenomenon is structured in terms of operation, accountabilityAccountability and regulation. It achieves this placing Australia at the centre of examination and structuring the investigation around four categories identified in the previous chapters including neoliberal economic trends; the way that states outsource private security; issues surrounding accountabilityAccountability and transparencyTransparency; and regulation of PMSCsRegulationPrivate Military and Security Companies (PMSCs) hired to provide security mechanisms for the state.
