Prospects of Sustained Economic Growth in Africa

As discussed in the previous chapter, African countries have achieved impressive economic growth in the past two decades, compared with the “lost decade” of the 1980s and poor economic performance in the 1990s. The reasons for this respectable performance will be discussed later in this chapter. The problem with African countries, however, is not so much that they are incapable of achieving economic growth, but rather they often do not sustain growth momentum.
