In spite of attempts made, the socio-cultural impacts of technological advancements in translation research are yet to be fully explored. The rise in the use of machine translation across various social settings, from individual conversations to global organizations, is not just a shift in working conditions for professional translators in the “translation industry. The anthropological categories created by Arnold Gehlen that show how technology and culture are intertwined are employed. Besides, a systematic approach based on theoretical frameworks is needed instead of relying on random conventions or practices. The chapter concludes that dealing with this complex correlation theoretically depends on clarifying if our available concepts can survive empirical tension. Simply put, we must first be certain of our tool’s adequacy before tackling this intricate relationship.
