Impact of the Political System on the Economic Development of the World’s Smallest Economies

  • Aneta A. Teperek

摘要

This chapter explores the political systems of the world’s smallest economies. In addition to human resources, natural resources, capital, technological progress, and innovation, which are widely acknowledged as significant drivers of economic growth, the political system plays a pivotal role in the distribution and allocation of these resources. This is due to its capacity to create or destroy incentives that promote development and innovation in management processes. A political systems analysis was consequently conducted to ascertain its influence on economic growth and development. The world’s smallest economies were classified according to three criteria: territorial organization (unitary or federal), form of government (monarchical or republican) and political regime (democratic or non-democratic). This classification helped identify the political systems that hinder or facilitate the growth and economic development of the economies under consideration.
