New Scots, Old Tricks?

At the time we met, Duniya was seventeen years old and had lived in Glasgow for nearly a decade, having initially been moved with her family to the city by the Dispersal Scheme. She was in her first year of university, and in her spare time had a part-time job as a Somali-language interpreter. She had agreed to speak to me about her experiences of navigating her Somali identity in the changing cultural context of the Scotland at the time. Having grown up in Glasgow, Duniya had friends from a range of different backgrounds, and the differences in their experiences and her own had caused her to reflect upon the social challenges people of Somali identities encountered in Glasgow.
