At the turn of the new Millennium, the newly-implemented Dispersal SchemeDispersal Scheme—a UK Government immigration policy which allocated accommodation to asylum seekers on a no-choice basis (Hynes, 2011; Schuster, 2005)—began to move asylum seekers to locations across the UK. Families and individuals living in London and other parts of southeast England were required to report to the Home Office, ushered onto buses and told to stay on them until their names were called, with little knowledge of where they might be disembarking.
