Unfinished Metamorphoses: From Infamous Gestures to Spectacular Biopolitics

The chapter briefly traces the evolution of the politics and aesthetics of gesture in the cinema of Yorgos Lanthimos from Kinetta to The Killing of a Sacred Deer and, in its final section, opens towards a further theorization of the weird biopolitics of gesture in a direction that would confront Lanthimos’s later films with neoliberal feminism, spectacular biopower, and their problematic marginalisation of racism and white supremacy in the way they continue to draw the relations between power, gestures, and the body.
