American Society for Apheresis Indication Categories and Indications

The American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) guidelines present a critical review of the medical literature, offering evidence-based recommendations for the use of apheresis procedures in clinical practice. To be included in the guidelines, a critical mass of peer-reviewed literature describing the role of apheresis in the treatment of a disease must exist. Each indication and the role of apheresis are described, with each being assigned an ASFA category and a recommendation grade. These provide the apheresis practitioner with globally recognized evidence-based clinical guidelines for more than 100 apheresis indications.
