E = mc2, the most famous equation in the history of science, is so simple that everyone understands it, and yet it is so awesome and profound. The speed of light c is 300,000,000 meters per second. Its square c2 is 90,000 trillion m2/s2, a hard-to-imagine large value. So, a little amount of mass could become an incredibly humungous amount of energy.
