Non-antiarrhythmic Drugs with Antiarrhythmic Properties

Despite decades of intense preclinical and clinical research, currently available antiarrhythmic strategies yield disappointing results over the long-term, as they are often ineffective and have a high side-effect profile (Ehrlich and Nattel, Drugs 69:757–74, 2009). This is at least partially due to the complexity of cardiac arrhythmiasArrhythmias pathophysiology and to a still incomplete understanding of the fundamental mechanisms underlying them.
