The Protection of Third Parties and Victims in Criminal Proceedings in the Area of Freedom, Security, and Justice: Developments in EU Law

This study focuses on the protection of third parties and victims in criminal proceedings from the perspective of European Union law. Having outlined the notions of ‘third parties’ and ‘victims’ in light of the current European Union legal framework, the analysis also investigates whether and to what extent the third-party categories provided for by EU legal instruments can be broadened in order to grant protection to those who are affected variously by criminal (trans)national proceedings.
