Scotland: “Men with Moleskin Jackets Reading Books”

  • Keith A. Manley

摘要

Scotland was particularly rich with libraries endowed by philanthropists who wanted to help the poorer classes. Many of these were free with notable examples in Stirling, Woodside, Falkirk, and Crieff, or had a minimal fee, such as Auchterarder. There were numerous similar libraries all over Scotland and its islands founded by local benefactors or town councils which had not adopted the Public Libraries Acts.
