This chapter will introduce the history, pathophysiology, and general principles of nerve stimulation. The components of the nerve stimulation system and relevant fascicular anatomy will be described. This chapter will also review the indications, contraindications, and adverse effects of the procedure and implantable stimulator. Ultrasound anatomy and procedural steps for the femoral, sciatic, and radial nerves will be reviewed and may apply to other nerves throughout the body.
