Electrodiagnostic studies used to evaluate the peripheral nervous system include nerve conduction studies (NCS) and needle electromyography (EMG). Although these are powerful diagnostic tools, they are an extension of the clinical examination. Therefore, they cannot be accurately interpreted in isolation and require a careful history and physical examination to implement their findings appropriately for the specific patient.
