The influence that ancient literary traditions had on the study of human anatomy is undeniable. This chapter utilizes five different classical myths to retell the stories of five different anatomic concepts. Each story has been crafted into a hand-drawn graphite image to emphasize the beauty of this crossover between literature and medicine. Love of anatomic study is visualized through the story of Narcissus; the origin of homunculus is visualized through the birth of Athena; the origin of axilla is visualized through Icarus; the origin of “Achilles tendon” is visualized through Achilles; and the origin of atlas is visualized through the story of Atlas.
