Wernicke, Hilde (1899–1947)

Hilde Wenicke graduated in medicine in 1924. From 1927 she worked as a junior physician at the Meseritz-Obrawalde institution and was put in charge of its female and paediatric wards. It is estimated that between 7000 and 18 000 patients died in Meseritz-Obrawalde. After the war, Wernicke tried to hide but was soon captured. She was arrested, charged and sentenced to death. Wernicke was executed by guillotine on 14 January 1947.
