Oberheuser, Herta (1911–1978)

  • Edzard Ernst

摘要

Herta Oberheuser graduated in medicine in 1937 and joined the Nazi party in the same year. Subsequently, she held several posts specializing in dermatology. In 1940, she applied to become a camp doctor, was accepted, and transferred to Ravensbrück. In 1943, she was transferred to the clinic in Hohenlychen. In both these locations, she assisted in cruel experiments on non-consenting prisoners. Several victims died and Oberheuser actively killed others by lethal injections. After the war, Oberheuser stood trial at the Nuremberg Doctors Tribunal and was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment. She was pardoned in 1952 and initially even allowed to practice medicine.
