Jantzen (Koehler), Erika (1911–?)

After specializing as a gynaecologist, Erika Jantzen became the physician of the Lichtenburg concentration camp and subsequently of the Ravensbrück camp for female prisoners. About 130 000 women were imprisoned in Ravensbrück; many died of starvation and illness, while many others were murdered. Jantzen was interviewed in 1948 and gave a detailed account of her work in the camps. She claimed never to have committed any crimes against humanity. She was thus never charged and able to run her own medical practice after the war.
